Summer Workshops Extravaganza

How do we fit all the instruction into the day? How do we utilize student interest and address the needs of the diverse learners in our classrooms?

We will learn research based strategies and routines to differentiate and scaffold district literacy resources (such as Heggerty, Into Reading, and Structured Literacy Foundational Skills). Then look how to incorporate Social Studies, Science, and Vocabulary instruction within these literacy routines by using "engagement kits".

Engagement kits include simple props, read alouds, and music. The purposeful play that the engagement kits creates allows for cross curricular instruction especially with Social Studies and Science, it helps develop oral language and vocabulary, and gives our students experiences beyond the classroom. I have 5 engagement kits to share but the possibilities are endless as we look at student interest and relevancy. Engagement kits can be used across all content areas and are a great way to elevate your daily literacy routines.

You will experience these literacy strategies through participation with the engagement kits!

You will have time and resources to make an instructional plan to align your literacy instruction with other subjects such as Science and Social Studies.
